DDR 3 Ram or double data rate 3 is a random access memory technology used for high speed storage of the working data of a computer system.
DDR 3 Ram is the 3rd generation of DDR memory , promising record speeds and a host of improvement over the old DDR 2 standards.
It is a part of the SDRam family of technologies , which is one of many Dram and is an evolutionary improvement over its predecessor , the DDR 2 Ram.
The DDR 3 ram has this ability to run its I/O bus at 4 times the speed of the memory cells it contains, thus enabling faster bus speeds and higher peak throughput. This achieved at the cost of higher latency. Also the DDR 3 Ram standard allows for chip capacities of 512Mbit to Gbit effectively enabling memory modules of maximum 16Gbytes in size.

The different standards of the DDR 3 Ram are :

· DDR 3 – 1066 ( PC 3 – 8500 )
· DDR 3 – 1333 ( PC 3 – 10600 )
· DDR 3 – 1600 ( PC 3 – 12800 )

DDR 3 Ram modules have 240 pins , the same number as DDR 2, but with a different key notch location.
The DDR 3 Ram prototypes were announced in 2005 , and products appear on the market in the form of motherboards based on Intel’s P35 “ Bearlake “ chipset .
